Drive by post...

I'm off to the big city today to visit a friend for the night, then baby nephew tomorrow. Sean will be holding down the fort here.

I'm really hoping the percolator in my brain is working on my new story, because I haven't had much time to do anything but a little research recently. One book I've been reading (thanks to ILL) is Olivier Blanc's Les Espions de la Révolution et de l'Empire - lots of cool info in there to help me with my plotting. There's a copy for sale through ABE Books and I'm seriously considering shelling out the money for it.

More pics from the building site later this week - the septic system is going in and the slab should be poured over the next couple of days.

That's all for now :)

Catching up...

Hi everyone,

Sorry I went AWOL like that. It's been busy here and I just haven't felt much like blogging.

We have foundation walls:

We're hoping the floor can go in soon (it's been rainy here, except on the weekend when it was glorious) so framing can start.

In writing news, I'm putting aside Henri and Madeleine's story for a bit and starting work on something more marketable. I was stubbornly holding on to the idea I might sell a French Revolution story, but so far, it just doesn't look possible. Soooo, I'm going with another idea I've been noodling with for a while. Still connected to the French Rev story, but set in England with a friend of my hero from WTHR as its hero. Interestingly enough, I've already heard conversations in my head between the h/h of Just One Night (my working title for this new ms). Am deep into research etc right now, at least when time allows.

Am also playing around with an idea for a research business for myself. Not sure it can actually fly, but I'm putting some work into it, research and fleshing out the ideas.

Finally, I'm also resuming my agent search. Realize I've neglected it for a month or two and must get back to querying.

The only other excitement is that we're waiting news of our soon-to-be-born nephew/niece. It should be within the next two days or so.

My link of the day today is for a book by one of my closest friends - a fantastic travel writer. Fans of Zebra Regencies will recognize her name. She's been working on this book for a while and it looks like a great read.

I'll try to post more frequently this month. And try to make more blog rounds over the next few days.

Go Sens, Go!
Go Canucks, Go!

A busy few days...

but I did manage to make some time for writing today.

Yesterday I spent four hours cleaning out undergrowth and deadfall - it was tons of fun, but a lot of hard work. I was exhausted by last night, so didn't bother blogging.

Today I went back and had at it for another couple of hours. My woodland garden is slowly being revealed - here are a couple of photos I took yesterday:

Sean picked me up around 2pm and we went to Sechelt so he could attend a council meeting and I could go to the library and do a bit of work on When the Heart Believes. I did some more plotting - the words just flowed, musta been the lilac ink I was using *g*.

Once he was done, we ran a couple more errands, then returned home. Along the way I looked out the window and saw a bear in the field beside the road. Sean stopped and backed up - I grabbed my camera from my bag and snapped this photo through the open window. I zoomed in as much as my little camera could - you can just make him out at the back of the field - if you zoom in well, you'll see his face:

Last, but not least - thanks for understanding. Unlike Kelly, I can't just check blogs at various points during the day. I've no discipline and get sucked in, seeing as I set my own work schedule. OTOH, I can quickly throw together a blog post in the evening. And Kelly - I'd love the five questions, please :-)

Updated blurb...

Yep, I think I finally got it right. Took quite a while though. If you're interested, read the new version of the blurb on my WTHR webpage. I'm open to feedback. Or leave a comment below :-)

The letter is almost done too - I'll leave it alone till tomorrow, then tweak it again if it needs it.

Last night I did some more proofreading. It was hard to actually get down to it (I'd rather have been knitting), BUT I also knew that once I opened the computer file, I'd get pulled right in and I did. Though I did have to take time out to a) play with Cleo and b) rescue Chloe from on top of the corner shelf (she was ready to jump down BEHIND it, stupid cat).

Yesterday afternoon we walked over to see how the big burn was going. All the good lumber has been sorted, so now there's just the slash to burn. We could see the fire from our little cabin:

It was even more spectacular in person. We also inspected the trees blown down during the big storm on Tuesday. I'll try to get some pics of those today - one or two snapped right off! This also gives you an idea of where our house will be :-)

Ok - back to work now!
