Does anyone out there in Blogland use Google Desktop? If so, have you had any security issues with it since the last big problem was reported last year?
I really would like to be able to use this tool, but am absolutely paranoid about exposing my computer to major risks. I know, I know - just BEING on the internet is a risk these days, but do the benefits of this software outweigh those risks?
Feedback on this would be very much appreciated.
Other than the above, I'm working away steadily on my latest contract work. And when not doing that, playing with a slightly different version of the opening of my completed ms, What the Heart Remembers after an online brainstorming session with my critique partners late last week.
On the home front, I'm watching my recently planted garden start to grow and wondering when I'll see the bear we now know passes right by the house (there is a giant bear poop on the section of driveway outside the kitchen window).
How 'bout everyone else - anything new?

I used to use Google Desktop but it slowed my machine down. I can't say that it was Google or my computer but I took it off. I have not installed it on my new laptop. I mostly used Google Desktop as a feed reader but I have plenty of substitutes with Vista.
I never had a security issue with it, I just found I didn't use it that much. Oh, and it was messing up my wireless network. Now I remember. It had a conflict with something in my wireless network or maybe the firewall, but my network never worked very well when I used it.
Thanks, Rene :) Hmmm, it's so tempting to at least try it and SEE what happens. But as we're on wireless here, I don't want to do anything to mess up the network.
Decisions, decisions - thanks for the feedback!
I'm using Google Desktop at work and I can't say as I find it all that useful - of course, I haven't played with it too much. I won't install it on my computer at home because it's running slow enough as it is.
Melissa - thanks for the additional feedback. Good to know that GD slows things down as well as messing up wireless networks.
I used to have Google Desktop installed on my home PC, as I found it useful for finding "lost" documents and emails, but I had to uninstall it when it started slowing my system WAY down. I kept getting messages warning me that my C: drive was nearly full, which puzzled me b/c I had hardly any files there... then I looked, and over 1/2 of the drive was taken up by GD index files! Never had any security problems with it as I recall.
Sarah - wow! Thanks for the warning re the Index files. Guess I won't bother with GD then. That makes NO sense to me - filling up your hard drive with files, just so you can find other ones a little more easily.
